I was recently gifted with a wooden single key Tenor recorder. It came in a nasty looking cloth case with stains at the top. Soon after starting to play it I began having lung issues. i assumed it was a mild flu. Now I wonder if this recorder may have mold on the block. No evidence of it elsewhere. I’ve trashed the old cloth case and bought a new one, although I’m leaving it out flat mostly. It doesn’t smell of mold. Sorry for all my recent questions! this last may be the most important. I’m unsure how to remove the block safely. I’ve seen instructions for cleaning with alchohol and a q tip.

In the end the tenor I was gifted had no mold on the block, once I removed it. I treated it with vinegar and washed it anyway as per this excellent video by Tom Prescott that Lazar’s music kindly sent me.
