Awhile back a group of ‘educators’ wanted to teach recorder to school children with a simplified fingering system. They developed a system more simple but more of a toy than a musical instrument. As I understand it German fingered recorders are not fully chromatic and sometimes sold in substitution to beginners that later find themselves in able to advance very far. For my part I’ve heard many such complaints, but I’ve never actually played one.
